Pride, Brotherhood, Remembering, whats does it all mean ?

The Buchanan Valley FD Volunteers close out a week of remembrance of Firefighter Adam Cole. For those not familiar Adam was killed in the Line-of-Duty 10 years ago this past Wednesday (10/4/07) while responding to an alarm with our department. Wednesday Evening, over 50 Buchanan Valley members, the family of Adam, neighbors and invited guests gathered at the firehouse for a ceremony in which the department went to the grave site placing flowers, returned to hear kind words from our guest speaker Timothy Solobay-Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner. A moment of silence was held followed by bagpipe music from our good friend Bill Rose – DCFD Pipes and Drums. Those in attendance also enjoyed an ice cream social and the dedication of the 2017 Rescue Engine.

Friday Morning, Rescue Engine 27 headed south to attend the National Fallen Fighters Memorial Weekend at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD. The department was asked a few months back to take the prestigious honor of filling the backdrop during the 2017 Memorial Service. What an honor to have our department center stage during a national event in which firefighters from across the country remember the heros of America who paid the ultimate sacrifice. We at Buchanan Valley train hard, and pray that one day, this event is no longer needed ! We close this post out thanking the membership for their hard work, pride and dedication. Its very proud and humbling to hear Commissioner Solobay on Wednesday evening declare our department a role model for others to follow.

Training Continues in Buchanan Valley

Buchanan Valley FD Volunteers finished up the Pump Operations 2 series this past weekend, with multiple scenarios of pumping, drafting, attach lines, big lines. Several firefighters from neighboring departments also attended this class. Last Night (Wednesday) for the monthly drill night, Adams County Hazmat Coordinator (Kim) brought the Mass Decon Tent to “The Valley” so our firefighter could become familiar with the setup and operations. We are not big on stealing quotes from others, but “Let no man’s ghost return to say his training let him down” !
