With the Blizzard of 2016 starting to wrap up, BVFD is still staffed by Volunteers for any response. The Duty Crews took in an MVA, Medical Response, Mutual Aid Box and a 1st Due Box during the Blizzard. This is on top of the many un-dispatched investigations that the Crews handled. Last night as the snow was starting to let up, Adams dropped the box for the report of a house on Oak Drive (27-6 Box). Engine Tanker, Engine, Brush 27 all responded and with the assistance of the Franklin Township Road Crew arrived to find a furnace malfuntion (explosion) with a small fire. The box was quickly held to “27”. BVFD would once again like to recognize Franklin Township for the endless support and with out the roadcrew we would have never been able to access Oak Drive. Above are some pictures from Oak Drive.
Buchanan Valley FD members rang in the New Year spending their weekend at the firehouse preparing to serve well over a 1000 guests and patrons. Friday January 1st, we served our annual Pork & Saurekraut Dinner to over 550 people. Saturday was our popular Seafood Feast that is held of the 1st Saturday of each month. Saturday brought 455 people to “The Valley” for the best Seafood around. Today (Sunday) we are serving our friends from Redding’s Hardware in Gettysburg with their Big Buck Contest and expecting 250 people. This would not be possible without the dedicated members of Buchanan Valley FD. Their tireless efforts do not go unnoticed. And lastly we thank each supporter who purchases tickets to all our fundraising events !
The 2015 Buchanan Valley FD Solicitation was planned/used to install a firehouse generator. The department choose this project after several events in 2013 and again 2014 that left the firehouse without power because of weather related events. With losing power to the firehouse, firefighters had to manually raise the bay doors, which caused delays in apparatus responding to emergencies. It also meant that there was no fire siren to warn residents on potential weather warnings. We were able to complete the project with the money donated this year from the residents of Buchanan Valley’s response area. The generator is sized a 60kw which will power the entire firehouse. Buchanan Valley FD is a dedicated location for community members to shelter in the event of natural disasters. We would like to recognize a few businesses that assisted in completing this project. They are Scenic Valley Enterprises LLC, Ketterman Electrical Services LLC, and Baumgardner’s Mechanical Services.
