Today, 11 Buchanan Valley FD Volunteers spent s the day at the Franklin Twp School for our annual fire prevention program. Firefighters went to each classroom discussing Fire Safety Topics geared to each age level. We continued our Smoke Alarm Project by ensuring that each kid has taken home a 10 year smoke alarm. 100 Smoke Alarms were given out to students this year. Firefighters & Fire Apparatus from Buchanan Valley, Cashtown, Arendtsville & Fairfield were on hand to for the Fire Safety Day. A great time was had by all !

The membership at Buchanan Valley is full of dedicated volunteers who work non-stop throughout the year running calls, working fundraisers, training, and fire prevention. Each year the PA State Firefighters Association holds it firemen’s convention. They recognize departments and firefighters of the state for their hard work.
Buchanan Valley FD was recognized in 3 areas this year. The first is the Robert W. Little Jr Memorial Fire Safety Education Award which is based on Fire Prevention efforts in your respected community. BVFD 27 received 3rd Place in Division C which is the catagory in population of less than 6000 people. The second is Hereda/Terrini Memorial Junior Firefighter Award recognizing a outstanding junior firefighter of an organization who shows leadership abilities, as well a dedication to their fire service training and school academics. Junior Firefighter Zoe Spielman was selected as a recipient of this years award ! And the last award was presented to Steve Waybrant for Firefighter of the Year. We are excited for Steve who joined The Valley recently. A top notch guy ! Congratulations to the membership, Zoe & Steve for their awards !
The Burn Ban for Franklin Township, Adams County has been lifted Effective Immediately. With a fair amount of rain this past week, the vegetation has greened enough to allow burning again. Buchanan Valley FD would like to remind everyone that it is a requirement to notify the Adams County Department of Emergency Services at 717-334-8101 when you are planning to burn. Today Engine-Tanker 27, Special Unit 27 and Brush 27 along with 14 BVFD Volunteers attended a day long Fire Prevention Program at Franklin Township Elementary School. BVFD along with Cashtown FD and others do this annual Fire Prevention program at the school. Firefighter groups attend each classroom and complete a presentation followed by students getting to tour the apparatus. Firefighters attend lunch with the students. New Students to the school are given a new smoke detector (10 year model) to take home and have installed in their homes. BVFD would also like to thank Franklin Township Staff for their support of this Fire Prevention program. BVFD would like to Thank our members who took a day off work today to help with the teaching of fire safety to the students and residents of our 1st due area.
