This afternoon Buchanan Valley FD along with Rescue 4 and several EMS units were dispatched to Chambersburg Road (Rt 30) and Buchanan Valley Road (Rt 234) for an auto accident involving a motorcycle. Engine Tanker 27, Brush 27, & Special Unit 27 with 12 responded shortly after dispatch. Additional information from Adams County 911 reported a Garbage Truck involved with 1 trapped. Company 27 units arrived to find a Garbage Truck vs Motorcycle. ET 27 quickly went to work freeing the victim entangled in the cab of the garbage truck. Special Unit 27 split crews and began providing medical aid to the other patients. Command requested 3 ALS transport units and 3 helicopters. Brush 27 established a Landing Zone in nearby field. The roadway remained closed for several hours as Penn Dot and EMA worked on cleaning the accident scene. Chief 27 would like to thank all the responders for their quick work stabilizing the incident as well as to all the Fire Police who kept the scene safe by diverting the traffic. This past weekend, Volunteers from BVFD completed the last 16 hours of the newly released revised Vehicle Rescue Awareness Class. Members from 5 Neighboring Departments also are taking this Class. After a lengthily classroom portion, Members completed the hands on portion on Sunday. BVFD is very pleased to announce that this is another FULL CLASS of students. Thank You to Fairfield FC for bringing Rescue Engine 2 for the hands on portion.

This afternoon Engine 27 was dispatched on the Box Assignment to 1029 Brysonia-Wenksville Road (Box 5-7) in Menallen Township for a shed fire. Initial Units arrived with fire showing from a wood frame shed with an exposure issue. Crews pulled 2 lines to protect the house and extinguish the fire. E27 supplied Engine 5-1 and the crew assisted with hooking the roof and the large stack of fire wood.
Over the Weekend, BVFD Volunteers kept busy with responses while also taking a much needed break for our Annual Membership Appreciation Banquet. On Saturday the Engine Tanker w/ 5 responded on a woods fire on Rocky Mountain Road. After staging for a period, ET-27 was returned. During the Banquet a Medical Emergency was handled. Sunday started off with a reported land rescue on Pine Grove Road (27-3). Engine Tanker, Brush and Chief 27 responded w/ 12. Brush 27 arrived to find 1 patient having a medical emergency 300 feet off the roadway on a hiking trail. The response was quickly held to Brush 27 and EMS. Around 1700, the Engine Tanker w/ 6 responded on the WFD to 2376 Loudon Road (18-13) for the working barn fire. ET-27 was on the scene for several hours.
