Pride, Brotherhood, Remembering, whats does it all mean ?

The Buchanan Valley FD Volunteers close out a week of remembrance of Firefighter Adam Cole. For those not familiar Adam was killed in the Line-of-Duty 10 years ago this past Wednesday (10/4/07) while responding to an alarm with our department. Wednesday Evening, over 50 Buchanan Valley members, the family of Adam, neighbors and invited guests gathered at the firehouse for a ceremony in which the department went to the grave site placing flowers, returned to hear kind words from our guest speaker Timothy Solobay-Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner. A moment of silence was held followed by bagpipe music from our good friend Bill Rose – DCFD Pipes and Drums. Those in attendance also enjoyed an ice cream social and the dedication of the 2017 Rescue Engine.

Friday Morning, Rescue Engine 27 headed south to attend the National Fallen Fighters Memorial Weekend at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD. The department was asked a few months back to take the prestigious honor of filling the backdrop during the 2017 Memorial Service. What an honor to have our department center stage during a national event in which firefighters from across the country remember the heros of America who paid the ultimate sacrifice. We at Buchanan Valley train hard, and pray that one day, this event is no longer needed ! We close this post out thanking the membership for their hard work, pride and dedication. Its very proud and humbling to hear Commissioner Solobay on Wednesday evening declare our department a role model for others to follow.

Not Forgotten ~ Adam Cole 10-4-07 ~

It’s been 9 years since we lost Adam Cole. Many things have changed, but him being apart of Buchanan Valley FD activities has not. His gear rack remains the same today reminding us he’s watching over us on each call. A special Thank you to brother Mike Karolenko for creating this artwork. It’s much appreciated !

Remembering Adam Cole

lodd - adam cole(1)

This date marks 8 years since Adam Cole was killed in the Line of Duty while responding to a Mountain Fire with the Buchanan Valley Fire Department. We often think back remembering Adam and are grateful for having him apart of our BVFD family. We know he continues to look over our shoulders each time the siren goes off and the trucks go out the door. Honor Adam today by thinking of the 87 new names being added to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg this weekend, and pray that number quickly drops in size.
