August 14, 2019 – Assistant Chief Walter Wagaman died in the Line of Duty as a result of a severe head injury sustained from an accident while responding on Rescue Engine 27 to an emergency call on the night of August 2, 2019. In the early morning hours of August 14th, Wagaman’s organs were donated through the “Gift of Life” program. He died doing what he loved, helping others in need. Over 100 firefighters lined the hallways of York Hospital for Assistant Chief Wagaman’s “walk of honor”. Bridges and Overpasses were lined by emergency responders as Walt was moved from York Hospital to Leigh Valley Medical Center, then again from Lehigh to Dugan Funeral Home in Shippensburg. Nearly 1500 people and 200 pieces of fire apparatus attended the funeral services as we laid a true hero to rest.
