The Buchanan Valley Volunteer Fire Department is very pleased to announce the awarding of a grant via the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program in the amount of $228,571.42. The AFG is a competitive grant opened annually to all Fire Departments in America. The AFG Award covers 95% of the awarded Project, with the Department covering a 5% match. A small percentage of the overall Departments that apply receive an award. The Project that was awarded will cover BVFD purchasing new Firefighting PPE for all our Volunteers. The 50 sets of PPE will allow all our Volunteers to have standard exceeding PPE from head to toe. As many have seen in the recent news, older firefighting PPE contains high amounts of PFAS. The PFAS materials have been directly tracked to cancer. BVFD is very pleased to be able to outfit our Volunteers in the newest PPE that contains a drastic percent lower PFAS materials. BVFD would like to thank our members who spent countless hours in preparation of this grant application (BVFD writes all grants) and the local Community Members/Leaders who submitted letters of support for this project. BVFD will post updates as this Projects continues. |
